The company and the concept began like many revolutionary products do – as a simple idea. In 1993, husband and wife duo, and Crypton founders Craig and Randy Rubin set out to create a fabric that was stain, moisture and bacteria resistant, yet soft and breathable. With nothing in the marketplace that suited those needs, just sticky vinyls and treated fabrics that were hot, rough, and unpleasant to live with, Craig and Randy knew there was an opportunity.

So, in the basement of their Michigan home, the Rubin’s, armed with decades of knowledge in the textile industry, as well as the advice and assistance from researchers, chemists and textile engineers, went to work to find a solution, and in turn, started a textile revolution that created totally new options – and a totally new category of upholstery - Crypton Super Fabric.

Protected with the first of now 14 global patents, the Rubin’s introduced Crypton to the world over 15 years ago, and today, it is recognized and used by over 90% of contract designers. And now, as consumers are discovering this fabric for the first time, Crypton is coming home.

The first market to embrace Crypton was health care, and soon after that, the hospitality and contract industries. Basically, anywhere were stain, spill and odor-resistant fabrics were needed. Today, Crypton Super Fabric is installed in some of the world’s finest restaurants, hotels, and cruise ships, as well as in government complexes, schools, and health care facilities around the world.

In fact, with contract sales through the finest distributors in America - each with their own exclusive pattern and style, there are over 20,000 patterns of Crypton Super Fabric in the market today.

With some new, exciting technologies that include mattresses, wall fabrics, car seats, crib mattresses, pet beds, place mats, lift chairs and carpeting, Crypton has now also been ushered into the residential and consumer goods market with equal success.

And now, Crypton Carpet Technology creates extreme stain and microbial resistance, and keeps bleach from harming the nylon fibers of the carpet.
