Crypton FAQs

Yes. It is an engineered textile made with pre-tested and approved fabrics that have specific fiber and construction requirements that deliver consistent performance. The fibers are permanently encapsulated with stain and microbial protection before they receive an integrated (non-laminated) moisture barrier.

No. Our fabrics are woven and engineered in a specific way to ensure absolutely consistent results. That way, you know you are getting proven performance, and can confidently tell the end user that this fabric delivers on its promise.

Rest assured that with Crypton, you have the only fabric that meets or exceeds all of the following tests: Stain resistance, water resistance, abrasion, tearing strength, breaking strength, seam slippage, resistance to fungal growth, resistance to bacterial growth, and flammability. www.cryptonfabric.com/trade

No. Most likely not, as we don’t use chemistry that comes off of the fabric, but highly allergic individuals may want to check with their doctor. Some Crypton fabrics use acrylic latex, but never rubber latex.

All Crypton fabrics pass Cal 117, UFAC, NFPA 260. If you must pass more stringent requirements, we do make fabrics at the time of processing (not after) that will meet Cal 133 (with components), IMO RES 16-52A, Boston and New York Fire Codes, automotive, FMVSS302, and aviation FAR25-853. Tell your distributor that you need this and they can order it to be processed accordingly.

Standard Crypton fabrics will provide 40+ hours of fade-resistance just like any of our interior fabrics. Four hundred hours are recommended for continual outdoor use, however, Crypton has been used successfully in protected, outdoor areas. We do make a specific fabric for outdoor use that is sun and bleach resistant—Crypton In and Out.

No. Crypton fabrics do not contain VOCs (volatile organic compounds that can be emitted over time into the air, adversely affecting indoor air quality.) Crypton Super Fabrics do not use any PFOAs (perfluorooctanoic acids) or formaldehyde during its manufacturing process.

The test for breathability (ASTM-E96) measures the amount of vapor that can pass through the fabric. The pores formed in Crypton's treatment are large enough to let water vapor pass through but small enough to keep water out.

Yes. We offer a five-year warranty on our moisture barrier. What that means for you is that we absolutely stand by the statement that our fabric will remain spill, moisture, bacteria, and odor-free!

Architects and designers can source Crypton through one of our distributors. All of them are listed on our website, www.cryptonfabric.com/trade

Crypton fabrics prohibit the growth of molds like Aspergillus Niger and bacteria, such as Staphylococcus Aureus. Our fabric process also includes chemistry that prohibits bacteria and mold from spreading.

It is not in the chemistry that is used, but rather in the fiber content of the actual fabric. In order for fabrics to be given the Crypton Green seal, the select fiber must be either: 50-100% recycled; 100% heavy-metal-free polyester; 100% wool with heavy-metal-free dyes; 100% polypropylene. The end product must also meet Section 01350 emissions requirements.

We worked with the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) for several years to ensure that the integrated barrier of our fabric was so strong it could be considered as a solid surface. Crypton Super Fabric is the only fabric in the world that can make this claim.

For starters, the fact that Crypton has an integrated backing that won’t separate. Once a fabric delaminates in a particular spot, a pocket forms between the fabric and the laminate. Not only can germs grow in this pocket, but the performance of the fabric is compromised as well. All are listed on our website, www.cryptonfabric.com

Yes. We include a five-year warranty on the barrier.
